rEd aNd wHiTe!

Waves-Hands-And-Tells-Hi-Akash [I guess, I just saved my neck! Imagine writing Ms.Cheese Thosai...]used the local services of her mobile service provider, SingTel, and informed the occupants of BODT at an unearthly hour of 11.45 pm that all GIISQTians/ers/iites had to wear the colors of the Singapore National Flag the next day. Frankly speaking, I was like "What the hell? Where on earth do I go for a flag-colour-dress? By the way, how did the Singapore National Flag look like?!?" WHATHA basically, technically, definitely, OBVIOUSLY had no answer and unceremoniously hung up. "Etiquette and today's girls, are two mutually exclusive words and it was to be expected, wake up, young man!," I told myself.

Eventually, somewhere during the course of the night, I realised that the red and white dishcloth they had put up for drying outside the hostel was the Singapore National Flag[Dear singaporeans, no offence meant! I come from a place in Indian where dryers are not so common as they are in the land of 'hi-la-how-are-you-la?'s].

To start somewhere, why did the founding fathers of Singapore have to decide on a red and white flag? Why not green, yellow or black or any other colour for that matter?

Now, charming ladies and the not-so-charming gentlemen, the flag of a 44-year old [or going to 44 years soon!] country doesn't change overnight just because one cute, young, handsome, charming young lad[my wide-eyed readers, this is a descriptive reference to me!] hasn't got his dress for the next day! And so my dilemma continued.

Eventually, in the morning, this cute, handsome, charming, young lad decided on a white singaporeish t-shirt after half a dozen conferences aimed at confirming the colour of the shirt to be worn.

Breakfast passed quite uneventfully(Warden Madam stifled a laugh when she saw me...no ideas why!) with just 2-3 people offering comments on the new t-shirt(Where? When? How much?!).

Everything kind of went alright till the last period when Pradnya acquired the audacity to suggest "Sathish, this shirt looks girlish!" which according to me didn't merit a response[meaning I was absolutely speechless!] and spurred me to actually concentrate in the class[was dozing till then! molecular orbital theory really sounded like a lullaby!]

At last, the bell rang out and R & W day came to an end [without any major casualities!]. I heaved a big sigh of relief. Thank God! The fancy-dress thing was finally over.

Looking back now, the last 24 hours still seem like "a comedy of grave errors!". Still, I guess, fooling around once a year is acceptable. After all, it is our dear Singapore's birthday!

Happy B'Day, la. Can do just about anything for you la!
